On 5 April 2023, a new community cycling system was inaugurated in Eger as part of the HungAIRy LIFE integrated project. The system was launched with 20 bicycles and two stations, one in Kallómalom street in the Upper Town and the other in the Orva street. The main aim of the scheme is to encourage local people to use alternative means of transport to their cars.

In January 2019, the HungAIRy project in Eger started the implementation of the Eger Bike. This was made possible with the support of the European Union LIFE programme. The community cycling scheme is only one element of the project, but perhaps one of the most important for Eger. This mobility-intensive, environmentally conscious method of transport was missing from the map of the city," said Ádám Mirkóczki at the system's inauguration.

The mayor pointed out that in addition to the discounted annual season ticket of 1,000 Forints introduced in Eger's public transport system, another alternative to car use is now being offered to the city's residents. He added that he would like the next step to be the installation of electric scooters in the city.

The aim of Eger Bike is to reduce air pollution, congestion and noise in the city by getting more people to use bicycles as part of their daily lives. Its mission is also to promote this efficient and environmentally friendly alternative among commuters and travellers in the city centre. The mayor also expressed his intention to expand the scheme.

Bálint Kiss, representative of the Magyar Telekom Group, the contractor, said that 30 hybrid docking stations are available at the two stations and these are suitable for adding electric bicycles to the range of vehicles available for rental in the future.

GPS is installed on all bikes. It is also possible to increase the number of stations, for example at larger factories in the city, he added.
